Input: "Write me a song about my black cat Todd as if it was written by the Illuminati Hotties"

Output: "
Verse 1:
Meet Todd, our black cat
He's the ruler of our flat
With his sleek fur and glowing eyes
He's a sight to behold, oh my!

Chorus:
Todd, oh Todd
You're the king of our domain
With your aloof and dignified air
You make us feel like we're insane

Verse 2:
You saunter around the house
With your tail held high
You own every room you enter
We're just lucky to be by your side

Bridge:
But don't let your regal demeanor
Fool you into thinking we're not equal
We're part of the Illuminati Hotties
And together, we're unstoppable

Chorus:
Todd, oh Todd
You're the king of our domain
With your aloof and dignified air
You make us feel like we're insane.
"Screenshot from a conversation with ChatGPT.

Input: "That's great, but could you make it more tenderpunk?"

Output: "
Verse 1:
Meet Todd, our black cat
He's the softest thing we've ever had
With his fluffy fur and gentle purr
He's the sweetest boy, for sure

Chorus:
Todd, oh Todd
You're the light of our lives
With your snuggles and headbutts
You make everything alright

Verse 2:
You curl up on our laps
And melt our hearts with your touch
We could stare at you for hours
And never get enough

Bridge:
But don't let your tenderness
Fool you into thinking we're not tough
We're part of the tenderpunk crew
And together, we can't be buffed

Chorus:
Todd, oh Todd
You're the light of our lives
With your snuggles and headbutts
You make everything alright.

  3. One of my favorite things about software development is taking big problems and breaking them down into smaller ones. I've never had as fine an example of this as a project I recently finished working on, so I wrote about it: stevenhicks.me/blog/2022/11/breaking-problems-down-a-case-study/
  4. 99% sure I scheduled a tweet for this morning, and it didn't show up, so I think that's one of the robots that guy unplugged.
  5. We must be approaching winter, cuz I wrote an article (1st one since May!): stevenhicks.me/blog/2022/11/automating-pull-requests/ TL;DR I had a bunch of repetitive PRs to open. Rather than suffer like a cave person I automated as much as I could. Along the way I learned more about sed and the GitHub CLI.
  6. I got bored of editing and recorded my voice for a couple more minutes. @ADevExPodcast/1592554775408934914
  7. what if the real treasure is the 1000 poorly batched RPC calls we made along the way?
  8. Working in isolation is fun because you get to move fast But then you want to do something really dumb, and there's no one around to tell you that it's really dumb, so you end up doing it and IMMEDIATELY realizing how dumb it was.
  9. Spirit guide: a guide that helps you spell spiret. Sperit. Aww fuuu come on guide, I need you right now. Some people wake up with solutions to problems in their head. I get this garbage 👆
  10. I'm still not sure if I'll be abandoning this place, but I scooped up @pepopowitz@hachyderm.io. For a bit I'll be spending a little more time there and a little less time here. Regardless, I'll keep this page updated: stevenhicks.me/where/
  11. You would be a *teammate* of mine, if that's something that interests you. Like we could hang out and pair program and stuff. @MissAmaraKay/1588594247707475968
  12. Luke warm take (maybe room temperature): Virtual tech conferences failed because speakers talking at audiences is an entirely bad format. In-person tech conferences succeed *despite* speakers talking at audiences, because the conversations and connection carry it.
  13. I diiiidddd ittttt, I finally shipped it. You should listen to it! @ADevExPodcast/1584911658534723591
  14. My keyboard was dropping keystrokes. I tried two new pair of batteries. No luck. If it's not batteries, it means something is interfering. I walked around unplugging things. It was my dehumidifier, in the "full bucket" state. I emptied the bucket. My keyboard works now.
  15. Why did the developer spend their day learning how to run a static website (plus .htaccess) through apache via docker? BECAUSE THEIR REWRITE RULE WAS MISSING A LEADING SLASH. Not a joke, just my life. 😭😭😭😭
  16. if you've been thinking "I wish I could hear more of Steve's nasally voice" I have a gift for you. I recorded some conversations last winter with people about the systems that work (& don't work) for them. I'm *finally* sharing them. First episode ships in a couple weeks! @ADevExPodcast/1579834957509246976

  18. This is a great episode. Maybe it especially resonated with me because I'm having trouble starting my Monday morning 😬😅 but also it features some of my favorite people and they're very thoughtful. @ArtsyOpenSource/1575487425719062530
  19. I said this the last time I installed a garage door opener, but I mean it this time: Yes, you *can* install your own garage door opener. No, you do not *want* to.
  20. unimportant thing that bothers me way more than I'd like to admit: GitHub issues URL: github.com/xxx/issues plural GH pulls URL: github.com/xxx/pulls plural GH single issue URL: github.com/xxx/issues/123 plural GH single pull URL : github.com/xx/pull/123 singular 🤬

  22. Thus begins a five day vacation to drive to Michigan and race 70.3 miles, and I'm starting it off the right way -- finding out the garage door opener is busted and needs to be replaced. Not today, Satan. Not today.
  23. Ummm this lake is connected by a large channel to the one I swim in every summer, so (a) I'll never be sleeping again and (b) open water swimming in an unknown lake this weekend is going to be terrifying 😬😰 reddit.com/r/AbsoluteUnits/comments/x5mcov/this_snapping_turtle_found_washed_up_on_the_beach
  24. Happening now -- @ChristinaAusley is incredible, and has formalized some amazing guidance for writing documenation at @Camunda. @hafflgav/1564880072204484608
  25. Devastated to learn that contributing to one docs project, and a combined 35 stars across 40 incomplete nonsensical personal projects, does not make me a "maintainer of popular open-source repositories" 😭

  26. Look at me, I'm contributing!!! Am I doing it right? Is this how one "does open-source"? github.com/camunda/camunda-platform-docs/issues/1129
  27. My afternoon: Me: computer 1, push some stuff to computer 2. Computer 1: sorry, I don't have access to computer 2. Computer 2: thanks for the stuff, computer 1!!! Me:
  28. I can't tell if there's a specific tweet to cause this trend, but it seems like not and this is just a perfect capture of literally every conversation on Twitter.

  29. After years of supporting my wife at USA Triathlon age group nationals, I actually got to compete this year. Weather shortened the race by half, but at least I got to race. I beat my goal of "better then the bottom 10 of my age group" -- I was bottom 15 😅 just too many fasties.

  30. 😅😬 classic Steve energy on my #FirstPullRequest -- I got excited about an idea for 10 days, opened a PR for a small change, got feedback to make some changes, and then lost steam. github.com/flot/flot/pull/1105 firstpr.me "Contributing" to open source for 9 years🙄

  32. Help! I have a repo with a precommit hook set up via husky. It runs prettier to auto-format changes before committing. It doesn't run when a commit is made through the GitHub UI. Does anyone know if there is a way to MAKE it run for commits made via GitHub UI?
  33. Awwww poor Git, want a huggie? I hear this error message in the voice of an 8yo, arms folded, bottom lip stuck out, just SO. SICK. of losing games of "Terminal" to their sibling.

  34. I've been wearing the same bike shoes for about 15 years, so I was due for new ones. Kids bought me new ones for Father's Day, so I bought paint markers and added "stripes". Yes they're not as good as professionally custom painted shoes but I made them and I love them.

  37. Pretty sure there has to be a "law" named after someone, for when you need to open a whole new box of materials just for 1/1000th of it. I bought an extra box of flooring just in case, and that red mark is the amount of material I need out of it 🤬😅😭

  38. Can we all just agree that "dependending" is an acceptable spelling variation of "depending"? I don't know why my muscle memory spits that out every single time.
  39. Oh hey for all 8005488 times you've heard me say "to solve the problem, break it down smaller," I spent my morning getting really anxious that I couldn't solve my current problem, and finally made progress after I BROKE THE PROBLEM DOWN SMALLER. 😅😬
  40. After a full day of not losing bluetooth audio, I can say confidently that disabling "AirPlay Receiver" in the settings has fixed my last two work macbooks. Both would drop bluetooth audio for a few seconds 20 times a day, and both were fixed this way: reddit.com/r/MacOSBeta/comments/qjgqjx/i_think_ive_found_a_fix_for_the_bluetooth/
