            1. We have this old toilet in our main bathroom that needs a replacement lever every couple years. They just break. I think it's because the shape of the toilet is weird, and every time I buy a new one it doesn't quite fit. I have to bend it or something to make it fit.

If you've never browsed the "toilet parts" aisle at the hardware store, let me assure you -- EVERY replacement toilet lever claims to be universal. "Fits every toilet!!" they say. But it's all lies. I ALWAYS have to hack it to get it to fit in my weirdass 70s yellow toilet.

I'm sure you're wondering -- why not replace the toilet, Steve, or better yet remodel your bathroom? It's on the list. There's _a lot_ of legacy code in this house. It's also weirdly reliable -- it never leaks, it is somehow not stained despite its age, it's a good toilet.

Except the damn toilet lever. But that's a pretty minimal amount of effort to deal with every couple years.

Anyway, the lever broke last night and today I had to shop for a new lever again. And I found one THAT WAS ACTUALLY AS UNIVERSAL AS IT CLAIMED!!! It took more time to get the old one out than to get the new one in. It had all the adjustments I needed to make it fit. No hacking!

I know you've read stevenhicks.me/blog/2021/01/tips-for-working-with-legacy-code/ and you think this thread is a metaphor about code... But it's not. I'm just really excited about this toilet lever.
