        1. Two tools I've been test-driving this week: 1. @OmniFocus to manage tasks - inspired by @ashfurrow 2. @jrnl for journaling - inspired by many at @ArtsyOpenSource, where we've started sharing daily journal entries.

Backstory: I've used Trello forever to manage my day-2-day tasks, & help me set my focus. When I started at @ArtsyOpenSource, I realized quickly that I needed to get serious about identifying deep work from shallow work, so I could work on the right things at the right times.

Like, trying to work on a task that requires deep thought is just not worth it in a 30 minute window. As soon as you get your mental model built up, you'll have to let it crash down. These small blocks are better suited for "shallow" work, like reviewing small PRs.

For some reason it wasn't until starting at Artsy that I felt like I was bad at managing my small blocks of time. Maybe it's because most of my meetings were scheduled in the morning, so I ended up with more tiny holes in the morning, and more large empty blocks in the afternoon.

I started integrating "shallow", "medium", and "deep" labels into my trello board, so that I could find the right depth task for any given block of time. It works pretty well. It requires a lot of discipline and effort to maintain, though, & my trello board is scary to look at.

So far @OmniFocus does all the things I was doing with Trello. I'm still getting used to it, but I think it might replace it. I _think_ it's less scary to look at, & more powerful. I'm still figuring out how to adapt some things to my workflow; I think I'll be able to, though.

As for @jrnl, it's neat to just fire journal entries into a terminal. It might be redundant to my workflow, but it might not. I do like the options it provides for searching/filtering log entries. I'll see if it sticks.
